Scholarships

The Gorsline Company annually presents the Human Performance Institute Scholarship to a young aspiring driver who consistently displays exceptional talent and a professional respect for motorsports.

Some past recipients have been:  Bryan Herta of the FedEx Champ Car Series, Anthony Lazzaro of the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Series and NASCAR Busch Series, Jerry Nadeau of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, Butch Leitzinger, two time WSC Champion, David Besnard former F2000 Championship winner, and Buddy Rice of the KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Series

This award is presented annually at the American Auto Race Writers and Broadcasters Association at their awards banquet.


Dane Cameron

2007 Recipient

Rising open-wheel racing racer Dane Cameron has picked up a pair of prestigious awards to add to his already crowded trophy case.  The Sonoma, California native, who won the 2007 Star Mazda Championship and will race in the 2008 Champ Car Atlantic Championship courtesy of a full-season sponsorship from the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Ladder, has been awarded both the 15th annual Gorsline Scholarship and selected as the 45th annual Open Wheel Road Racer of the Year by the Motor Sport Press Association.

Dan Partel, JR Hildebrand and John Gorsline

2006 Recipient

J.R. Hildebrand, of Sausalito, California, received the 2007 Gorsline Scholarship, a prestigious award given to a young up-and-coming driver each year who displays the attributes of a future champion. It is the fourteenth year that John Gorsline of The Gorsline Company has sponsored this award to recognize and help aspiring drivers to develop both on and off the track and attain their professional goals. Hildebrand received his award at the Awards Banquet of the American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association held in Indianapolis. The presentation was made by Dan Partel, founder of the European Formula Drivers Association and longtime supporter of up and coming young drivers.  Hildebrand also received his "Horsepower Award" for being named to AARWBA's 2006 Auto Racing All America Team

Katherine Legge celebrates one of her three wins in 2005

2005 Recipient

British rising racing star Katherine Legge hopes to continue to build on the skills she displayed this season while competing in the Toyota Atlantic Championship Presented by Yokohama and improve as a driver after being named this year's recipient of the prestigious Gorsline Scholarship award.

2004 Recipient

Rising British star Ryan Lewis took time out of his hectic testing programme to fly out to California at the weekend to receive the Gorsline Human Performance International Scholarship, which was presented at the American Auto Race Writers and Broadcasters Association awards banquet in Pomona, on Saturday. Nineteen year-old Ryan, who clinched the 2003 Formula Palmer Audi Championship, received the award from John Gorsline of the Gorsline Insurance Company.

Rocky Moran, Jr., been awarded the 2003 Human Performance International (HPI) Scholarship from The Gorsline Company.

The HPI Scholarship is presented annually to a young driver who consistently displays exceptional talent and a professional respect for motor sports. Moran, of Coto de Caza, California, will turn 23 the day he receives the Gorsline Award. He will attend HPI's Driver Enhancement Program in Huntersville, North Carolina, designed to improve a race drivers' functional and competitive performance through mentally, physical and lifestyle evaluation and development.

2002 Recipient
Danica Patrick was named 2002 recipient of The Gorsline Human Performance International Development Scholarship. By earning the HPI scholarship, Patrick will participate in HPI's renowned two-day Driver Performance Enhancement Program.

2001 Recipient
Patrick Long, the young California racer who will compete in this year's Slick 50 Formula Ford Zetec Championship in England, was recently named the 2001 recipient of The Gorsline Company Human Performance International Development Scholarship. By earning the HPI scholarship, Long will participate in HPI's renowned two-day Driver Performance Enhancement Program.
